Germination patterns along a salinity gradient of closely-related halophytes in sympatry

چکیده

Sympatric closely-related species co-occur within heterogeneous environments by occupying separate ecological niches as result of adaptive differentiation. Soil salinity is one the most relevant drivers leading plant zonation in salt marshes, where germination a critical stage life cycle many halophytes. Salinity influence on patterns was evaluated for six sympatric Limonium (L. admirable, L. caesium, cossonianum, delicatulum, supinum and tobarrense), which grow under arid environmental conditions an inland marsh from southeastern Spain. Experiments were conducted to determine effects different salinities (0–6% NaCl) seed 12 h light at 25 °C dark 20 °C. Best obtained non-saline conditions, delayed significantly reduced increasing levels all studied taxa. The variables related final percentage, mean time recovery directly influenced salinity. Seeds recovered their capacity after transferring seeds saline solutions distilled water, especially those previously treated high conditions. Our results suggest that successful establishment communities depends strategy implies rapid velocity when soil decreases. Two syndromes based percentage have been found. Hence, these strategies would favour adaptation favorable shaping asssembly habitat.

Foraging segregation between two closely related shearwaters breeding in sympatry.

Trophic segregation has been proposed as a major mechanism explaining the coexistence of closely related animal taxa. However, how such segregation varies throughout the annual cycle is poorly understood. Here, we examined the feeding ecology of the two subspecies of Cory's shearwater, Calonectris diomedea diomedea and Calonectris diomedea borealis, breeding in sympatry in a Mediterranean colon...

Soil salinity and nutrients pattern along a distance gradient in coastal region

Soil salinity is considered as one of the major challenges in coastal agriculture in Bangladesh yet geographical extent of soil salinity and nutrients status have received little or no attention. This study investigated the patterns of soil salinity, total nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and sulfur between agricultural and fallow land along a 90 km distance from the coastline in Noakhali, Bang...

Long-term patterns of an estuarine pathogen along a salinity gradient

Parasitic, disease-causing pathogens can exert strong control over marine populations yet few long-term studies exist that describe these relationships. Understanding the connections to longterm large-scale processes relative to local short-term processes should facilitate better planning for disease impacts in the management of marine resources. We describe a 21-yr dataset of dermo disease (Pe...

Patterns of distribution and plant diversity in along elevational gradient (Case study: Moghan-Sabalan rangelands)

The study of plant communities is the best way to learn about vegetation structure and distribution as well as various interactions among the plants in an ecosystem. Elevation factor plays a vital role in plant distribution that ultimately leads to specific phytogeographic regions. This study evaluated the changes in species composition, density, frequency, canopy cover and palatability of spec...

Archaeal diversity along a soil salinity gradient prone to disturbance.

We employed a cultivation-independent approach to examine archaeal diversity along a transient soil salinity gradient at Salt Spring in British Columbia, Canada that is routinely eroded due to heavy, recurrent rainfall. Archaeal 16S rRNA gene libraries were created using DNA extracted from three soil samples collected along this gradient. Statistical comparisons indicated similar archaeal richn...
